Step 1: Formulate Your Idea
Brainstorm away! Formulating an idea for a magazine can take time, and that’s okay. Organize your thoughts and create a solid content base upon which to build. Begin your journey by crafting a mission statement, which will act as the foundation for the overall publication.
Step 2: Format Your Magazine in a Design Program
Design it, and they will come. In order to fully envision and format your magazine in the way you desire, choose a design program that will work best for the ideas you’re trying to illustrate. Many of our customers use Adobe InDesign or Illustrator while other customers have chosen others easy-to-use platforms. The options to create are endless, and the choice is yours! Just make sure to send us your PDF file following our drop down menu options.
Step 3: Don’t Forget the Cover is Four Pages
Use your cover space wisely. Many customers forget that a cover is actually composed of four pages - front cover, inside front cover, back cover, and inside back cover. Make sure you don’t forget this key piece of information when designing your pages because it can alter the overall look and feel of your magazine.
Pro Design Tip: Want to generate some easy revenue for your magazine? Many designers will dedicate ad space on their inside covers to generate revenue. These highly coveted cover areas can be sold at a premium because they’re highly visible to readers.
Step 4: Enter Your Numerical Data
The numbers matter! After you’ve finished designing your magazine (the fun part), you will then need to input the technical information for your publication to be professionally printed. At Solo Printing, we want to ensure your end product perfectly matches your vision, so we ask for three key pieces of information:
Size: Select your magazine size from our feature product page. This is your opportunity to give your publication the “first impression” you envision.

Orientation- Portrait or square? Depending on the content inside, one layout may suit your content better than the other, especially if displaying a high volume of photography.

Step 5: Review and Upload Print-Ready PDF
Double check it all. Once you’ve fully reviewed all the details, simply upload your completed magazine as a PDF to our site. Take extra time to review the “big picture” look of your finished product and make sure no images or text were altered during the uploading process. Also, make sure there are no typos lurking in your copy because the final print is, well, final!
